BECOMING AN EXCHANGE STUDENT
North Penn students have the opportunity to apply to become exchange students at one of our partner schools. Students are typically sent abroad during their 11th grade (junior year), so those interested must complete the application during their 10th grade (sophomore year).
All applicants will be interviewed, and one student is selected for each partner school to represent North Penn High School for the exchange year.
Students must be willing to spend their entire junior year abroad, which means giving up their junior year at North Penn as well as all North Penn activities during that time. This experience provides a unique opportunity to study abroad, immerse yourself in another culture, and gain a perspective that will enrich your life in lasting ways.
The selected student will live with a host family that provides a safe and caring environment, while also helping them adjust to a different culture. By sharing in the daily life of a foreign household, students develop a deeper appreciation for people around the world and become better global citizens.
In addition, the chosen exchange student receives a full scholarship, which covers travel, tuition at the partner school, a monthly stipend, and room and board with the host family.

Student Travel While Studying Abroad
As part of the North Penn International Friendship Committee (NPIFC) exchange program, students are encouraged to fully experience life in their host country—attending school, engaging in community life, and enjoying cultural opportunities. The safety and well-being of each student remain our top priorities.
When a student wishes to travel outside the host city, special approval is required. Two forms must be completed:
Parent Consent Form – signed by the student’s natural parents
Host Family Consent Form – signed by the student’s host family
School-sponsored trips and travel with host families are typically permitted as long as they don’t interfere with school responsibilities. Any unaccompanied travel—that is, travel without a host parent or school official—is not approved or covered by the NPIFC. In such cases, parents may assume full responsibility for their child’s safety by completing the appropriate consent form.
